About the Project:
Museum in the Streets© is an internationally recognized program that creates heritage discovery trails for the benefit of a community’s inhabitants and tourists. An OOBMITS Committee was formed in October of 2015 to bring Museum in the Streets© to Old Orchard Beach.
The project will be a walking tour made up by a series of panels that fosters a sense of historical identity, educates, encourages preservation of local historic sites and promotes knowledge of stories, events and traditions. The panels invite people to discover a Town’s unique story at their own pace, over the course of an afternoon or several return visits.
There are several communities in Maine that have Museum in the Streets© walking tours, including:
- Augusta
- Bar Harbor
- Belfast
- Biddeford
- Hallowell
- Kennebunk
- Searsport
- Thomaston
- Waterville
- Wiscasset
The OOBMITS Walking Tour opened on June 14, 2018.
